How Does Electrolysis Work?
Electrolysis is a safe and effective method used to permanently remove unwanted hair from various parts of the body. At Smooth Finish Electrolysis, we employ this technique to deliver excellent and long-lasting results to our clients.
Here's a breakdown of how electrolysis works:
1. Consultation: The first step in the electrolysis process is a thorough consultation with an experienced practitioner. During this session, the practitioner will assess your hair and skin type, discuss your medical history, and address any concerns or questions you may have. This consultation helps us customize the treatment plan to suit your specific needs.
2. Preparation: Before proceeding with electrolysis, it's crucial to ensure the treatment area is clean and free from any topical products. Your practitioner will clean the area and sterilize the equipment to maintain a hygienic environment.
3. Insertion of a Fine Probe: A fine, sterile needle is gently inserted into the hair follicle that is to be treated. The needle is carefully placed alongside the hair shaft without puncturing the skin. This step requires precision and expertise to avoid discomfort and ensure effective treatment.
4. Application of Electrical Current: Once the probe is inserted, a small amount of electrical current is applied to the targeted hair follicle. The type of current used depends on the specific technique employed: galvanic, thermolysis, or blend. Each individual hair is targeted in this way.
Galvanic Electrolysis: This method employs a direct current (DC) that produces a chemical reaction within the hair follicle, causing sodium hydroxide (lye) to be created. This lye effectively destroys the hair's growth cells, preventing regrowth. The lye also acts as a localized anesthetic, minimizing discomfort.
Thermolysis: This technique utilizes an alternating current (AC) to generate heat. The heat coagulates the cells responsible for hair growth, effectively stopping the follicle from producing new hair.
Blend: This method combines the benefits of both galvanic and thermolysis to deliver unparalleled results.
5. Hair Removal: After the electrical current is applied, the hair is gently removed using sterile forceps or a similar tool. Any temporary discomfort is usually mild and well-tolerated.
6. Post-Treatment Care: Following the electrolysis session, your practitioner will provide you with detailed aftercare instructions.
